Summer Update

Sat Aug 29, 2009, 4:54 PM
It's 102 degrees and there's a brush fire just north of where I live. As in: I live in a valley and there's a fire descending from the mountains above the valley. -__- What a fantastic way to end the summer, not to mention, the remaining summer assignments I haven't finished. siiiiiiiigh.

But I did get some nice views of the fire from my roof yesterday and up the street. Even if it is devastating acres of land, giant fires look quite magnificent from a distance. Especially at 2:00 am. :D This sounds terribly naive, but WOW MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH A NATURAL DISASTER OMG. Cars are speckeled in white ashes, all I hear are whirring helicopters and sirens and people have been evacuated some blocks up my street.

And school may not even open on Monday 8DDDDDDDDDDDDDD....DDDDDDDD. I cross my fingers that the fires will magically teleport and attack the school. Not the conventional "BURN IT TO THE GROUND KUKUKUKU" but just enough charring and smoldering for my own selfish desires >:]

That aside, this has been a really ordinary, lethargic summer. I did get to see my friends more than usual (but that was during summer school :/) and binged on my childhood cartoons.

Disney Movies: Hunchback of Notre Dame, Lion King 2 (I WAS CURIOUS).
Animez: Pokemon, Island of Giant Pokemon episode <3

Movies: Harry Potter, Ponyo (squeefully cute but with obvious flaws)

New Anime: Pandora Hearts. It's okay. I'm not loving it, but I'll follow it. The main character makes me scowl and the prolific amount of slasher smiles bothers me. But I don't mind slasher smiles when used well (like in Soul Eater).

I find that anime to me is more like an escape from work that I mindlessly, aimlessly rely on to intoxicate my mind after completing 0.001 % of homework.

To finish, Compiled Evil Laughs:

1. Mwahahahahahaha (the generic)
2. Bwahahahahahaha (only one letter difference but I prefer this one)
3. Fwahahahahahaha
4. Hehehehehehehehe (the sneaky)
5. Kukukukukukukuku (I see this A LOT in manga and it makes me lol)
6. Fufufufufufufufu (also in manga xD)
7. OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO (in falsetto. usually done with the fingertips at lips, palm flat)

  • Mood: Daily Needs
  • Listening to: Blue Train by AKFG
  • Reading: not The Odyssey ;_;
  • Watching: not Pandora Hearts

It ended at Chap. 23. So much potential smothered so early u_u

Double Arts by Komi Naoshi (also author/artist for a bunch of one-shots, but I didn't really enjoy any of those -_-) was cancelled and I mourn for its discontinuation.

Because I like lists/enumerations/bullet points more than paragraphs, Double Arts pwns because:

1) Natural characters (excluding Sui.) Characters in anime tend to be extreme (and then cliche): the cute, ditzy one, the smart, stoic one, the noble, heroic protagonist
Kiri and Elraine just strike me as original and amusing without being exaggerated and stretched into these categories. Wow, I think Elraine is one of the few anime girls I can stand.

2) A light-hearted, quirky sense of humor. This scene, a personal favorite: [link] , panels 1-4. I dunno about you, but this scene was beautiful to me (win for Fallan Denzle) But you should probably get acquainted with the entire manga to really get it.

Granted, it has typical shounen qualities like some of the most annoying, overused lines: "I must get stronger and fight!!" and "I'll fight for my friends!!" sort of stuff.

Double Arts: A girl who has to hold hands with a boy. Or else she dies.
It's not perfect, but I'm willing use my valuable procrastination time to read it.
